Event Details
The Whitman String Quartet, comprised of doctoral students and graduates, was founded at Stony Brook University in 2015. The ensemble has participated in the Philip Setzer String Quartet Intensive, and in the first class of the Emerson String Quartet Institute, studying in coaching and masterclass formats with all five recent members of the acclaimed Emerson String Quartet. The Whitman String Quartet has performed more standard string quartet works from composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dohnanyi, Debussy, and Bartok, as well as lesser known and more contemporary works with colleagues in various instrumentations by Zdenek Fibich, Rebecca Clarke, Paul Chihara, Eric Lemmon, Ben Ramey, and others. They are currently featured on concert series hosted by North Shore Pro Musica, Three Village Chamber Players, and more.
